St Olaves Church - W A Hare

Sensitive modifications to an ancient church yard

Working with architects and builders to open the previously enclosed yard to the public and also to make the yard and rear entrance accessible to wheelchairs.

The project was to create two new entrance gateways on the east and west of the churchyard to both improve access to the church itself and to provide universal access.

Each gateway to have lockable gates, the threshold to the South Nave to be lowered (with the gate extended to suit) and a new ramp installed with railings.

The works were successfully executed in late 2013 to the satisfaction of the Parochial Church Council, the Architect and the client W A Hare.

Attention was give to hidden fixings and masking of any modern techniques used in the construction so that the overall effect was one of sympathy with the medieval surroundings.
